The Provincial Assessment Centre (PAC) is the designated tertiary care mental health service for individuals aged 14 years and older who have a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness or behavioural concern.  PAC provides multi-disciplinary and specialized inpatient assessment and treatment for dually diagnosed individuals.  Our team includes physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, art therapists, behavioural consultant, psychologist, social worker, dietician, mental health support workers, plus a dedicated administration and support services team. 

The Role:

As an Activity Worker at CLBC, you will perform a variety of duties to assist with social/recreational programming and client care. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, preparing and carrying out individual and group activities
  • Participating with the multi-disciplinary team by providing input with respect to assessment, development, activation, and evaluation of behavioural support plans and programs
  • Providing input and feedback with respect to program activities at regular planning meetings, such as client participation during activities
  • Accompanying individuals on community outings or to appointments
  • Supporting clients with planning, problem-solving and social skills in the community, and daily living skills such as using transit, banking, and shopping
  • Participating as a member of the code white team and utilizing skills as per MANDT training
  • Teaching and supporting individuals in psychosocial, life and personal care skills
  • Assisting with vocational and social skill development by exposing individuals to new and appropriate learning experiences in the community while at PAC

This role requires the ability to:

  • Be a good role model by demonstrating acceptable social behaviours
  • Be solution-focused in understanding goals and plans

In this position, you will work with individuals with mental health and behavioural challenges. You may have the need to restrain and seclude aggressive individuals per a Safety Plan and under the direction of the team; as well as assist in emergencies by initiating CPR or alerting emergency medical services; operate equipment to lift patients in and out of beds and wheelchairs.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 completion of recognized recreational courses, plus 2 years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • MANDT or similar certification
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience in working within mental health, developmental disability services, and the community.
  • Experience developing and identifying community opportunities for people with a broad range of developmental disabilities.Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviours, mobility impairments, and alternative communication systems.
  • Experience following and implementing Positive Behaviour Support and Safety Plans.

Transportation:
Use of own vehicle required, on expenses. Must be able to drive in winter conditions, throughout BC. 
Possession of a valid class 5 drivers license. Ability to acquire and maintain a class 4 drivers license, if required. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of CLBC. 

Shift: Shift work, including days, afternoon/evenings, and weekends, as required
